INEC Unveils Final List of Candidates for Edo State Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the upcoming Edo State Governorship Election, marking a significant milestone in the electoral process. Additionally, the Commission has announced the commencement of public campaign activities for the political parties involved.

In a statement issued by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner & Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC revealed that 17 political parties have fielded candidates for the election, with 16 candidates being male and one female. The final list of candidates, which includes details such as age, academic qualifications, and disability status, has been published at INEC’s office in Edo State and made available on the Commission’s website and social media platforms for public scrutiny.

The statement highlighted the timeline for campaign activities, stating that political parties are permitted to begin public campaigning from Wednesday, April 24th, 2024. Campaigns are scheduled to conclude at midnight on Thursday, September 19th, 2024, in accordance with the timetable and schedule of activities outlined by INEC.

With the publication of the final list of candidates and the commencement of campaign activities, the electoral landscape in Edo State is set to undergo increased political engagement and public discourse in the lead-up to the governorship election. The election itself is slated to take place on Saturday, September 21st, 2024, marking a crucial moment in the democratic process for the state.
