Campaign Coordinator Murder Sparks Concerns, Calls for Constitutional Amendment

The Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers Independent Council has expressed deep concern for the safety of its campaigners following the gruesome murder of its Ward 10 Coordinator, Mr. Alaba Abe Excel, in Supare, Akoko Southwest Local Council of Ondo State. The group attributes the incident to disgruntled aspirants unhappy with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s victory in the recent All Progressives Congress governorship primary election.

In a statement issued by the group’s Director of Contact and Engagement, Dr. Marindoti Oludare, the murder of Excel is condemned in the strongest terms. Oludare lamented the loss of a valued colleague and friend, emphasizing that such senseless acts tarnish the nation’s character with the stain of violence.

The tragic event underscores a disturbing trend emerging from the primary election, highlighting a lack of good faith and sportsmanship among losing aspirants. Oludare expressed concern that political rivalry has escalated to the point where human lives are at risk, emphasizing the dangerous consequences of refusing to accept defeat gracefully.

In response to these escalating tensions, Oludare reiterated the call for constitutional amendments to allow states to establish their own police forces. He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and members of the National Assembly to revisit this issue, citing the efficient management of regional police forces before their disruption by the 1966 military coup.
