Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has announced that Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), will deliver a keynote lecture at the upcoming 2024 NBA Annual General Conference.
Maikyau highlighted Okonjo-Iweala’s exceptional achievements both nationally and internationally as the reason behind her selection. He expressed the importance of her address in guiding legal professionals on contributing to Nigeria’s rebuilding efforts.
Speaking at the unveiling of the conference logo and theme in Abuja, Maikyau underscored the pivotal role of lawyers in national development, urging them to reassess their approaches to effect positive change.
He remarked on Nigeria’s vast potential and resources, juxtaposed with its current challenges, attributing much of the disparity to prevailing attitudes and approaches. Maikyau stressed the need for a paradigm shift among legal practitioners to align with Nigeria’s aspirations for progress.
The theme of the conference, “Pressing Forward: A National Posture For Rebuilding Nigeria,” reflects the urgent call for collective action and strategic initiatives to address the nation’s challenges.
Scheduled to take place in Lagos from August 23 to 30, 2024, the conference aims to foster dialogue and action-oriented discussions towards charting a path for Nigeria’s socio-economic advancement.
