Senator Wabara Urges Tinubu to Intervene in Rivers State Political Crisis

Senator Adolphus Wabara, former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the brewing political crisis in Rivers State, cautioning against the escalation of tensions that could jeopardize the stability of the state.

Wabara’s remarks come in response to recent calls by the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, a move supported by pro-Wike lawmakers. He accused Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, of exacerbating the standoff between Fubara and the lawmakers.

Expressing concern over the potential ramifications of political instability in Rivers State, Wabara urged Tinubu to urge Wike to prioritize peace and refrain from exerting undue influence on the affairs of the state. He emphasized the economic significance of Rivers State to Nigeria and warned of the dire consequences of any unrest.

Furthermore, Wabara cautioned against any attempt to forcibly remove a democratically-elected governor, stressing the need for adherence to constitutional processes and respect for democratic principles.

In light of the mass exodus of PDP members in Abia State, Wabara acknowledged the challenges facing the party but called for unity and resilience among party faithful. He attributed the party’s woes in Abia to the failure of successive party leaderships to sustain his legacy of party supremacy and internal democracy.

Meanwhile, former PDP Chairman in Abia State, Senator Emma Nwaka, attributed the collapse of the party in the state to weak leadership and the undue influence of government officials. Nwaka criticized party officials for relinquishing their authority to government officials and emphasized the need for rebuilding the party.

Amid the resignations of prominent PDP members in Abia, Nwaka announced his decision to join the Siddon Look Party (SLP), emphasizing the importance of building a new political platform focused on accountability and inclusivity.
