Lagos, Ondo, and Taraba Lead in High Okada Fares: National Bureau of Statistics Report

Lagos, Ondo, and Taraba states have emerged as the frontrunners in the realm of high Okada (motorcycle) fares, according to the latest findings from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report. The report unveils a landscape of considerable discrepancies in transportation expenses across Nigeria’s diverse regions.

In March 2024, the average cost of Okada rides per trip in Nigeria witnessed a 2.15% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. The fare surged from N462.21 in March 2023 to N472.16 in March 2024, as outlined in the recent NBS Transport Fare Watch report, which was made available on the agency’s official website.

Lagos, Ondo, and Taraba states stood out significantly with Okada fares surpassing the national average for March 2024. Lagos topped the list with an Okada fare of N850 per trip, closely followed by Ondo at N725 and Taraba at N670. These figures underscore the pronounced disparities in transportation costs observed across various regions within the country.

Furthermore, Imo and Yobe states secured the fourth and fifth positions respectively, with average Okada fares of N655 and N630 for March 2024. This data reinforces the notion of varied economic landscapes influencing transportation expenses across Nigeria.
