Gombe State Approves N5.2 Billion for Payment of Retirees

The Gombe State Executive Council has sanctioned the disbursement of approximately N5.2 billion to settle outstanding payments for retirees in the state and local government workers. Commissioner for Information, Mijinyawa Tilde, made this announcement following the council’s 36th meeting, presided over by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya.

Tilde stated that nine memos were presented before the council, all of which were approved and ratified. Commissioner for Finance, Muhammad Magaji, elaborated that N2.291 billion is allocated for clearing gratuities owed to state civil service workers, marking the fifth time the current administration has addressed such outstanding payments.

Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Abdulkadir Waziri, highlighted the approval for the payment of gratuities to retired local government workers across the state. He revealed that over N3 billion from the local government contributory fund is designated for this purpose, with plans to settle backlogs up to 2022.

Magaji further disclosed that N332 million was approved for compensating property owners affected by the relocation of motor parks in the Gombe metropolis. This initiative aims to facilitate the transition of motor parks to the Mega Motorpark completed by the administration.
