AAUA Student Arrested for the Murder of Fellow Student Over iPhone Theft

Ondo State Police Command has apprehended Olubodun Sanni, a final-year student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), for the alleged murder of Miss IfeOluwa Adekunle, a 300-level student of the same institution. The tragic incident, which took place in Miss Adekunle’s off-campus residence, has sent waves of panic and fear throughout the university community, especially among female students.

The new Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Abayomi Oladipo, disclosed during a press briefing that Sanni, in a chilling confession, admitted to entering Miss Adekunle’s room, fatally stabbing her in the chest, and then stealing her iPhone XR. The crime, uncovered on February 2, 2024, initially came to light following the discovery of Miss Adekunle’s body in her room, leading to an immediate police investigation.

“Through the use of modern technology, the police were able to trace the deceased’s missing phone to Olubodun Sanni, who was not only a fellow student but also lived nearby,” Commissioner Oladipo stated. The breakthrough in the investigation came when Sanni’s possession of the stolen phone prompted a detailed interrogation, culminating in his confession.

In addition to this case, Commissioner Oladipo highlighted other recent criminal activities within the state, demonstrating the police’s commitment to intelligence-led policing under his leadership. Among the cases mentioned was the arrest of Umar Ibrahim for the murder of Mohammadu Adamu in a suspected pre-emptive attack against a perceived threat of kidnap and murder, and the apprehension of Adeyeye Salisu, involved in a robbery incident in Owo.

The Commissioner also noted the arrest of Arogundade Damilola, caught with a firearm and ammunition stolen during a burglary.

“These arrests are a testament to our resolve not to allow criminals to find sanctuary in Ondo State,” Oladipo emphasized, assuring the public of the police’s dedication to maintaining law and order.
