Bello El-Rufai Denies Involvement in Contract Awards During Father’s Tenure

Bello El-Rufai, the House of Representatives member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, has refuted claims of his involvement in the award of contracts during his father’s tenure as the governor of Kaduna State. In an interview titled “With Shuraim,” Bello clarified his role during his father, Nasir El-Rufai’s administration.

Addressing the accusations of leaving a significant debt for his successor, Bello emphasized his admiration for his father’s leadership qualities, describing him as an exceptional mind. He highlighted their active support for Nasir El-Rufai’s gubernatorial campaign and acknowledged the political landscape during his father’s tenure.

Contrary to allegations, Bello stated that he did not engage in contracting activities in Kaduna but rather was sent away from the political scene by his father. He attributed this decision to his father’s desire to shield him from potential conflicts of interest and undue influence from contractors seeking favors.

Reflecting on his early years during his father’s administration, Bello revealed his employment in the Enterprise Business Unit of a technology firm, Huawei, which provided him with insights into organizational structure. He expressed gratitude for his father’s decision to remove him from the contracting sphere, acknowledging its positive impact.

Bello’s remarks underscore his previous statements regarding his father’s administrative prowess, emphasizing Nasir El-Rufai’s dedication to public service despite challenges. In March 2024, Bello lamented the Senate’s rejection of his father’s ministerial nomination, highlighting the nation’s loss of an effective administrator.
