Tragic End for Nigerian Student in the UK Just After Arrival

Saheed Wahab, a Nigerian man who traveled to the United Kingdom for his master’s degree, tragically passed away just a day after his arrival. Wahab, who had arrived at Teesside University in the UK on January 15, 2024, reportedly died on January 16, 2024.

The sad news of Wahab’s passing was confirmed in a statement released by the Nigerians in the UK Community and shared on the group’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle. The statement expressed condolences, reading, “Following the sad news we received regarding the death of Mr. Saheed Wahab, a student at Teesside University who died a day after arriving in the United Kingdom from Nigeria. He was here to start an MSc qualification, but unfortunately, he died on Tuesday (16th January) afternoon in Teesside. May Almighty Allah forgive his sins and accept his return.”

The community has reached out to Wahab’s family in Nigeria for burial arrangements. They have been given permission to arrange a funeral service for him in the United Kingdom. His Janazah (funeral) arrangement was scheduled for Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Jamia Masjid Al Madina in Middlesbrough.

This incident has brought a somber tone to the Nigerian community in the UK, highlighting the unpredictability of life and the challenges faced by international students. Wahab’s untimely death serves as a poignant reminder of the vulnerabilities that students can face when pursuing their dreams abroad.
