Tragic Accident on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway: Woman Killed by Falling Container

A yet-to-be-identified woman tragically lost her life in a horrifying accident on Friday at the Lagos end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The incident occurred when a 40-feet container fell from a Mack articulated truck onto the rear of a Nissan car, instantly claiming the life of the woman.

Reports from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) indicate that the woman’s driver miraculously survived the accident without sustaining any injuries. The accident is believed to have been caused by the high speed of the container truck driver, who fled the scene along with his motor boy following the incident.

In a statement released by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, it was revealed that emergency response teams, including LASTMA officials, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit, and other relevant authorities, swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate rescue operations.

Despite the concerted efforts of the responders, the woman could not be saved, and her body was evacuated by the police from the Alapere Police Station. The scene of the accident was attended by various emergency services, including the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Police.

Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, emphasized the need for caution among motorists, particularly truck drivers, urging them to refrain from overspeeding and ensure the proper maintenance of their vehicles, including thorough checks of the braking system, before embarking on any journey within or outside the state.
