Toni Kroos Ends Retirement to Rejoin Germany Squad for Euro 2024

Real Madrid midfield maestro Toni Kroos has announced his return to international football for Euro 2024 hosts Germany, marking a significant comeback after retiring from the national team in July 2021.

Kroos, a pivotal figure in Germany’s victorious 2014 World Cup campaign and a veteran with 106 caps for Die Mannschaft, had initially stepped away from international duties. However, following discussions with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann, the 34-year-old has decided to reverse his decision and don the national team jersey once again.

In an Instagram post, Kroos expressed his enthusiasm for rejoining the German squad, stating, “I’ll be playing for Germany again from March. Why? Because I was asked by the coach and I’m up for it.” He also voiced his confidence in the team’s potential, asserting, “I’m sure that much more is possible with the team at the European Championship than most people think right now.”

Kroos brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the German midfield, having enjoyed a stellar club career with triumphs in both the Bundesliga and La Liga, along with five Champions League titles. His international resume includes notable achievements such as a third-place finish at the 2010 World Cup and a semi-final appearance at Euro 2012, in addition to the memorable World Cup triumph in 2014.

As Germany prepares to kick off their Euro 2024 campaign, Kroos’s return adds depth and leadership to the squad. With upcoming international friendlies against France and the Netherlands, Nagelsmann will have the opportunity to integrate Kroos back into the team ahead of the highly anticipated tournament.

Germany’s journey at Euro 2024 begins with a clash against Scotland at the iconic Allianz Arena in Munich on Friday, June 14, setting the stage for Kroos and his teammates to showcase their talents on home soil.
