Shehu Sani Calls for Probe of Former Kaduna Governor Over State’s Debt

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has urged the state government to investigate former Governor Nasir El-Rufai over the significant debt burden left behind by his administration.

In a post on his verified social media handle on Monday, Sani called on Governor Uba Sani to establish an independent probe panel to scrutinize the financial management of the immediate past administration.

Governor Uba Sani recently revealed that he inherited a substantial debt burden totaling $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from El-Rufai’s administration, making it challenging to meet the state’s financial obligations, including the payment of workers’ salaries.

Sani emphasized that addressing Kaduna State’s financial crisis requires more than just revelations and necessitates a thorough investigation into the alleged mismanagement or embezzlement of funds during the previous administration.

He proposed the establishment of a probe panel led by an independent professional accountant or auditor to hold ex-government officials and their contractors accountable for the misappropriation of funds, including the utilization of a $350 million loan.
