Roof Collapse at OAU Amphitheatre Leaves Students Injured

Six students at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, sustained injuries after the roof of the school’s Amphitheatre collapsed during a morning lecture session. The incident occurred while students were attending classes at the Odudiwa Hall.

In a statement issued by the Students’ Union President, Abass Akinremi, it was revealed that the collapse resulted in injuries to several students present in the lecture hall. The injured students suffered varying degrees of injuries, including head injuries, leg injuries, and injuries to other parts of their bodies.

The Students’ Union called upon the Federal Government to prioritize funding for tertiary institutions, particularly for the renovation of dilapidated buildings. Despite the unfortunate incident, the Union commended the prompt response of the University medical team in attending to the injured students.

The statement further assured the OAU community and the public that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected students. Those in critical condition were promptly transported to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) for urgent medical attention.
