President Bola Tinubu has taken decisive action by suspending the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency, Ahmad Salihijo, along with three Executive Directors of the Agency, indefinitely. This suspension follows the uncovering of new findings during a comprehensive investigation into the financial activities of the Rural Electrification Agency.
According to a statement from Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the investigation revealed fraudulent misexpenditure amounting to over N1.2 billion over the past two years, some of which has already been recovered by anti-graft agencies. In response, President Tinubu ordered a wider investigation into the conduct of the suspended officials.
To ensure continuity and effective management, Tinubu has appointed a new management team to serve in an acting capacity with immediate effect. The appointed individuals are expected to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
