State governors elected under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have committed to enhancing investment in women to drive progress in Nigeria. In a statement issued by its Director General, Cyril Maduabum, the PDP Governors Forum marked the 2024 International Women’s Day by urging leaders at all levels to address the gender gap and create an enabling environment for women to excel.
International Women’s Day serves as a global celebration honouring women’s achievements across various domains and advocating for gender equality. Observed annually on March 8th, this year’s theme, designated by the United Nations, is ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.’
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Chairman of the Forum, along with other member-governors, congratulated Nigerian women on this occasion. The statement underscored the importance of recognizing women’s contributions regardless of cultural, economic, or political differences.
Aligned with the theme of the 2024 celebration, the PDP-GF reaffirmed its commitment to inspire inclusion through policies and programs that enhance women’s participation in governance and decision-making processes. This commitment extends to empowering women through education, healthcare, and other supportive initiatives aimed at dismantling barriers hindering their personal and professional advancement.
The PDP governors commended Nigerian women for their resilience and noted their vital role as sources of hope and strength within the nation. They highlighted ongoing government programs aimed at empowering women through education sponsorship, training, healthcare support, and the eradication of cultural practices that impede their progress.
