OYRTMA Provides Prompt Rescue Support for Tanker Spill Incident in Ibadan

The Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) swiftly responded to a tanker spill incident at Okebadan, Agugu, Ibadan, providing rescue support alongside other emergency agencies.

The incident, involving a tanker carrying 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), occurred due to a faulty turntable, according to Major Adesagba Adekoya (rtd), the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA.

Major Adekoya, leading the response efforts, coordinated with agencies such as the Oyo State Fire Service, Amotekun operatives, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Oyo State Security Network Agency to manage the situation effectively. Despite causing traffic gridlock, there were no reported casualties.

Emphasizing road safety, Major Adekoya urged caution among drivers, especially those handling heavy loads, and advised regular vehicle maintenance to prevent such incidents.

He appealed to road users to cooperate with traffic officers and exercise patience during the resolution process.

Acknowledging the collaborative efforts of sister agencies and individuals involved in the response, OYRTMA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring road safety for all in the state.

Currently, the affected area has been cordoned off, and the spilled content has been safely transloaded to another tanker, marking a successful resolution of the incident
