Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, the Rector of Ogun State Institute of Technology in Igbesa, announced plans to establish an innovation center aimed at providing students with hands-on skills training to foster job creation and combat unemployment in Nigeria.

During the matriculation ceremony for over 3,000 newly admitted students for the 2023/2024 academic session, Oluseye emphasized the institute’s commitment to equipping students with practical skills. He highlighted the importance of transitioning from theoretical learning to practical applications, citing the need to produce graduates who are capable of becoming employers of labor.

The innovation center, set to commence operations soon, will offer training in various areas such as drone manufacturing, air conditioner production, drone piloting, and other practical skills. Oluseye expressed confidence in the institute’s ability to produce its first drone by the end of the year, signaling a significant milestone in its efforts to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among students.

In addition to emphasizing the importance of practical skills, Oluseye cautioned matriculating students against engaging in anti-social behaviors such as cultism, gangsterism, and indecent dressing. He urged students to be vigilant in choosing their associates and to prioritize their academic goals to maximize their potential for success.

Oluseye also highlighted the institute’s accreditation of all 39 courses and its affiliation with the CISCO Networking Academy for professional certification in Information Technology (IT) Essentials.

Furthermore, the rector outlined various interventions undertaken by the institute’s administration, including infrastructure upgrades, improvements in security measures, and the resolution of salary arrears, signaling a commitment to enhancing the overall learning environment for students.
