Nigerian Security Forces Neutralize IPOB Fighters, Rescue Kidnapping Victims in Imo and Zamfara States

Personnel from the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy engaged in a gun battle with Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) fighters, resulting in the neutralization of five insurgents in Ejemekuru, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State. This encounter follows a recent clash between the troops and IPOB fighters in Orsu Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the joint operation led to the recovery of a significant cache of weapons, including rifles and improvised explosive devices, from the hideouts of the armed separatists. Among the recovered items were an AK-47 rifle, two pump-action semi-automatic rifles, and a locally fabricated gun.

Furthermore, the troops successfully rescued 15 kidnapping victims during counter-insurgency operations in Tsohuwar Tasha, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Responding swiftly to a distress call, the vigilant troops engaged the kidnappers in a shootout, forcing them to abandon their victims and flee into the forest.
