The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the suspension of the 25 per cent penalty on improperly imported vehicles, following directives from the Minister of Economy and Coordinating Minister of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun.
Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, conveyed this update in a statement released on Friday. The suspension comes in response to the Federal Government’s recent announcement of a 90-day window for the regularisation of import duties on specific categories of vehicles.
Initially, importers were required to pay import duty along with a 25 per cent penalty in accordance with import guidelines and procedures. However, the suspension of the penalty aims to alleviate economic hardship and encourage compliance with import regulations.
Maiwada emphasized the importance of stakeholders, including vehicle owners, importers, and agents, taking advantage of this opportunity to regularise import duty payments within the designated 90-day timeframe.
