Minister of Finance Promises Brighter Economic Outlook Despite Challenges

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has assurMrNigerians that despite the current harsh economic realities and rising prices of essential commodities, better days are ahead.

Speaking at the burial of Dr. Onaolapo Soleye, a former Finance Minister, Edun emphasized that the government’s priority is the well-being of Nigerians. He highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to steering the economy towards recovery and ensuring that Nigerians experience relief from their hardships.

Edun reiterated the government’s focus on domestic interests, emphasizing that decisions are made with Nigeria’s best interests at heart, rather than being swayed by external organizations like the IMF.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State also pledged to immortalize the late Soleye for his significant contributions to the nation’s economic development. Abiodun recalled Soleye’s instrumental role in the establishment of Oodua Investment Group and the development of Gateway Hotels in Ogun State during his tenure in various government positions.

Describing Soleye as a gentleman and activist, Governor Abiodun expressed the state government’s commitment to honoring his legacy. He honoured plans to name a significant edifice after Soleye, in consultation with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to commemorate his dedicated service to Ogun State.

Dr. Onaolapo Soleye, who served as finance minister during the military regime of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, played a pivotal role in safeguarding Nigeria’s economic interests, resisting the devaluation of the naira, and advocating for the printing of new notes.
