Man Sentenced to Death for Killing Wife’s Alleged Lover in Ekiti State

In a verdict delivered by the Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division, 28-year-old Ayodeji Alomoge has been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of Ogunleye Ayomide, whom he accused of having an affair with his wife.

Alomoge was found guilty of the murder charge, which stated that on June 21, 2022, at Ikere Ekiti, he killed Ayomide, contrary to Section 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

According to the father of the deceased, Ige Ogunleye, Ayomide was beaten severely by Alomoge and his associates, leading to fatal injuries. Despite attempts to save Ayomide’s life by taking him to nearby hospitals and eventually to the University Teaching Hospital in Ilorin, Kwara State, he succumbed to his injuries.

During the trial, the prosecutor presented five witnesses and submitted evidence including the defendant’s statements, pictures of the deceased, and a medical report detailing the cause of death. In his defense, Alomoge’s lawyer pleaded for leniency but called no witnesses.

In delivering the judgment, Justice Jubril Aladejana emphasized that jealousy or rivalry over a woman’s affection cannot justify murder unless it leads to a sudden heat of passion. Consequently, Alomoge was convicted as charged and sentenced to death by hanging.
