Labour Party National Chairman Threatens Legal Action Against Party Treasurer

The Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has vowed to take legal action against the party’s national treasurer, Oluchukwu Oparah, for allegedly defaming his character. Abure made this assertion during an interview with Arise Television, where he refuted claims made by Oparah regarding the party’s finances and internal affairs.

Abure accused Oparah of attempting to mislead the public and destabilize the party by making false allegations against him. He presented evidence, including signed checks, to refute Oparah’s claims and asserted that he had never hindered her from carrying out her duties as treasurer.

Furthermore, Abure emphasized the importance of transparency in the party’s financial records, stating that he had initiated efforts to ensure proper documentation of finances since assuming office in 2021. He challenged Oparah to provide financial records dating back to 2014 to corroborate her claims.

Regarding the alleged misappropriation of funds, Abure clarified that audited reports showed a total inflow of 1.3 billion Naira between 2022 and 2023, contradicting Oparah’s assertion of 3.5 billion Naira. He outlined the party’s accounts and signatories, refuting allegations of financial impropriety.

Abure also addressed rumors of his gubernatorial aspirations in Edo State, stating unequivocally that he had no intention of running for governorship. He emphasized his commitment to promoting transparency and internal democracy within the party to ensure the emergence of competent leadership.
