IWD: Lift Above Poverty Organisation Honors Women with Financial Empowerment

In celebration of the 2024 International Women’s Day, the Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO) has recognized and rewarded four exceptional women who have demonstrated excellence in their respective fields with a total sum of N1.3 million.

Godwin Ehigiamusoe, the Chief Executive Officer of LAPO, made this announcement in Benin, Edo State, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to promoting gender equity through economic empowerment. Financial empowerment, he stated, is integral to LAPO’s mission and serves as a tribute to women’s remarkable achievements and their contributions to societal and economic development.

Under the theme “Advancing Gender Equity Through Economic Empowerment,” Ehigiamusoe highlighted LAPO’s longstanding tradition of honouring and celebrating women who have left a significant impact on society. This year marks the 12th edition of the LAPO Outstanding Women Leadership Award, with a total of 41 women being honoured since its inception.

The recipients of this year’s awards include Imose Osar-Emokpae, the first Board Chairman of LAPO, who received the prestigious LAPO Lifetime Achievement Award. Other awardees include Udemba Anke, recognized for her professional achievements, Mary Izogie, honoured for her contributions to farming, and Idele Dimkpa, acknowledged for her excellence in the business sector.

Ehigiamusoe highlighted that the LAPO Lifetime Achievement Award recipient received N400,000 along with a plaque, while the other three awardees received N300,000 each, alongside plaques in recognition of their accomplishments.

Furthermore, Ehigiamusoe emphasized LAPO’s ongoing efforts to empower women financially and provide access to quality healthcare as part of its vision and mission to lift people out of poverty.
