Former Governor’s Chef Remanded for Alleged Theft in Lagos

Victor Abayomi, a chef who served the former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, has been remanded by a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing valuables worth millions of naira from the ex-governor’s Ikoyi residence.

Chief Magistrate Mr. Peter Nwaka issued the order, directing the remand of the defendant for 30 days at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.

Abayomi faces two counts bordering on conspiracy and theft, as preferred against him by the State Security Service.

Prosecuting counsel Joshua Babalola informed the court that Abayomi, along with others who are still at large, conspired and committed the offenses at the residence of the former governor.

Babalola alleged that Abayomi absconded to Old Garage, Molorundo Local Government Area, Osun State, where he was apprehended on March 7, 2024. The defendant purportedly made away with valuable items worth millions of naira from his employer’s residence in Ikoyi.

The charges against Abayomi contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate Nwaka adjourned the case until April 8, 2024, for further investigation and presentation of facts.
