Federal Government Vows to Uphold Sovereignty and Security Amidst Military Tragedy

Minister of Defence, Muhammed Badaru Abubabar, and Minister of State for Defence, Dr Muhammed Bello Matawalle, have reaffirmed the federal government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and stability, following a tragic attack on military personnel during a rescue mission in Delta State.

In a joint statement, the ministers condemned the heinous ambush on troops in Okuama Community, Ughelli South Local Government Area, which resulted in the loss of several lives, including the Commanding Officer of the 181 Amphibious Battalion and other soldiers. They emphasized the need to bring the perpetrators to justice and assured Nigerians of the government’s determination to maintain peace and tranquility across the nation.

The ministers reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to the Chief of Defence Staff to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure that those responsible face the full force of the law. They underscored the sacrifices made by Nigerian servicemen and women in defending the nation’s integrity and vowed to uphold the security and well-being of all citizens.

Amidst mourning the irreparable loss, Badaru and Matawalle expressed solidarity with the families of the fallen soldiers and assured Nigerians of the government’s resolve to enhance national security under President Tinubu’s leadership. They affirmed the government’s unyielding support for the armed forces and emphasized the relentless pursuit of lasting peace and tranquility across every region of the country.
