FCT Police Commissioner Warns Prison Escapees: Stay Away from Abuja

The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory Command, Bennet Igweh, has issued a stern warning to the 118 prison escapees from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State, urging them to avoid entering the FCT. In an exclusive interview with Crowther Radio in Abuja, Igweh emphasized that he would spare no effort in re-arresting any escapee caught within the FCT.

Following a heavy downpour that damaged the perimeter fence of the facility, enabling the prisoners’ escape, Igweh stressed the importance of vigilance and collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public. He revealed that 10 of the fleeing inmates had already been recaptured and taken into custody, with efforts underway to pursue the remaining escapees.

Drawing attention to a recent incident where three prisoners who had escaped from Kuje Prison were recaptured during an armed robbery operation, Igweh highlighted the FCT police’s determination to apprehend escapees attempting to enter Abuja. He urged residents to report any suspicious individuals to the nearest police station and assured that the police were coordinating with the Nigerian Correctional Service to obtain pictures of the escapees for identification purposes.
