Family Ties in Cybercrime: Four Brothers Among 34 Arrested in Enugu Sting Operation

The Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended four siblings and thirty other individuals on Friday, February 9, 2024. The Egbo brothers—Chukwuebuka, Favour Chibuike, Ifeanyi Francis, and Victor—stand accused of engaging in cyber fraud activities, highlighting a unique case of familial involvement in the crime.

The operation, described as intelligence-driven, targeted various locations within Enugu State, leading to the capture of suspects including Great Eze, Ani Callistus, Ekpe Chigbo, Eze Eric, and several others, marking a significant blow to cybercrime networks in the region. Notably, all suspects are male, reflecting a concerning trend in the demographic profile of individuals involved in such illegal activities.

Authorities reported the seizure of numerous mobile phones and a collection of exotic cars among the possessions of the arrested parties. These items are believed to be proceeds from their fraudulent activities.

The EFCC has announced that the suspects will face legal action upon the completion of their investigation, signaling the agency’s commitment to curbing the menace of cybercrime.
