Ex-Husband Brutally Assaults Woman in Lagos, Arrested and to be Arraigned

Mary Olohunwa, a resident of Bako Estate in the Owode Onirin area of Lagos, southwest Nigeria, is currently hospitalized following a brutal attack by her ex-husband, Keji Ademola. The incident occurred last Thursday when Ademola accosted Mary on her way to her shop, assaulting her and striking her with a heavy stone.

According to a relative of Mary, the altercation arose from Ademola’s claim of noticing strange marks on their children’s heads. Mary explained that these marks were placed for spiritual protection against attacks, but this explanation did not deter the violence.

The attack left Mary severely wounded, resulting in heavy bleeding. She was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Graphic images obtained by SaharaReporters depict Mary with a bloodied face, and a video shows Ademola being apprehended by local residents as he allegedly tried to flee the scene.

Mary’s sister, speaking to SaharaReporters, revealed the severity of the injuries and the substantial medical expenses incurred, amounting to about N160,000. She also shared that this was not the first instance of violence from Ademola, noting that the couple had separated three years ago due to his violent behavior. Despite previous incidents reported to the police, Ademola was released without any significant repercussions.

As of the last update, Ademola had been detained by the police and was scheduled to be arraigned in court. Mary’s family hopes for a just handling of the case, without any compromise from the police authorities.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached for further comments on the situation.
