Contractor Refunds N30.6 Million Over Double Payment Scandal

An ongoing investigation has uncovered details surrounding a case of double payment to a Federal Government contractor, James Okwete, who has since refunded the sum of N30,604,651.16 to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

According to documents exclusively obtained, the payment was related to a N35 million contract awarded to Mr. Okwete’s company, Adatech Integrated Services Limited, for the “Design and Development of N-Knowledge Training Manuals for N-Hardware Beneficiaries North-Central (Lot B17)” under the N-Power program.

However, it was discovered that Mr. Okwete received double payment for the completed contract. In response to this revelation, a letter dated April 27, 2021, from the National Social Investment Programme directed Mr. Okwete to refund the excess payment.

In acknowledgment, Adatech Integrated Services Ltd assured the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs of its intention to refund the money promptly. Subsequently, on October 13, 2021, the company refunded the total sum of N30,604,812.41 to the National Social Investment Programme.

Confirming the refund, Adatech Integrated Services provided documentation and requested confirmation from the ministry. The company expressed regret over the error and emphasized its commitment to rectifying the situation.
