Gunmen, yet to be identified, have abducted Catholic priest Rev. Father Basil Chukwuemeka near Nkpor Junction, close to the commercial city of Onitsha in Anambra State. Eyewitnesses reported that the priest was taken from his vehicle while driving in the area.
Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement, stating that Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has briefed Catholic priests on the situation during the Bishop Conference in Onitsha.
Ikenga stated, “Anambra Police Command has launched a manhunt for the abductors and possible rescue of Reverend Fr. Basil Chukwuemeka, which sad incident occurred at Nkpor Junction, Onitsha.” He reassured the public that the Command is collaborating with eyewitnesses to facilitate the ongoing operation.
