Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North Central region have initiated consultations to persuade Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter addressed to the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, the party’s North Central forum emphasized the strategic importance of aligning with Governor Mutfwang to reclaim Plateau State. The letter, signed by Salleh Zazzaga, Chairman of the North Central APC Forum, was submitted by Nasarawa State Chairman, Sani Jigas.
The letter stated, “It is pertinent to formally notify you of our invitation to Governor Caleb Mutfwang to join the APC. A formal letter to this effect will also be delivered to him, Plateau State APC, and his ward in the Mangu local government area.”
Zazzaga noted the necessity of this move, citing Mutfwang as the only non-APC governor in the North Central, and highlighted his productive relationship with President Bola Tinubu as a reason to capitalize on this opportunity.
The stakeholders expressed concerns over the current inactivity of APC leaders in Plateau following the Supreme Court’s reaffirmation of Mutfwang’s election victory. They stressed the urgency to rejuvenate the party’s presence in Plateau to prevent further gains by the PDP.
This development comes three months after North Central APC chieftains supported the suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and demanded the leadership position return to their zone.
