Brickhall School in Abuja Resumes Classes After Mourning Tragic Loss of Pupil

Brickhall School in Abuja has announced its resumption of classes one week after temporarily closing its doors to mourn the tragic loss of four-year-old pupil, Miguel Ovoke. Miguel passed away on April 24, 2024, after choking on a piece of meat during lunch at the school.

In a heartfelt statement issued on Wednesday, the school expressed deep sorrow and sympathy to Miguel’s family, acknowledging the devastating loss they have experienced. Despite the immediate response of the school’s trained nurse and the decision to rush Miguel to the hospital, his life could not be saved, as indicated by the medical report from Excel Specialist Hospital.

The school’s management and Parents Teacher’s Forum described the incident as a “heart-wrenching event” and suspended classes for a week to allow the community to mourn and reflect on the loss. They urged everyone connected to the tragedy to honor Miguel’s memory with dignity and peace while respecting the ongoing investigations by medical professionals and law enforcement agencies.
