Benue State Electoral Commission Announces Local Government Elections Date

The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) has scheduled local government elections in the state for July 6, 2024. This announcement was made by the commission’s chairman, John Chen, during a meeting with stakeholders in Makurdi, the state capital.

Chen emphasized the commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections, stressing the importance of avoiding sham elections that could lead to the emergence of unfit leaders and poor governance.

In addition to unveiling the election timetable, Chen disclosed the commission’s intention to create additional council wards within Benue State, marking a significant step towards fulfilling this promise. The election timetable outlines critical milestones and activities that BSIEC will undertake to ensure a transparent electoral process.

Stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, the media, and security agencies, were invited to participate in this momentous occasion.
