Aare Onakakanfo Urges Government to Address Fuel Subsidy Removal and Electricity Tariff Hike

During the 2024 edition of the Oke Ibadan festival organized by the Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF) in Ibadan, Oyo State, Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, called on the Federal Government to address the sufferings of Nigerians resulting from the removal of fuel subsidy and the increase in electricity tariffs.

Adams highlighted the concerns of Nigerians regarding the current situation in the country, emphasizing that policies such as the removal of fuel subsidy and the hike in electricity tariffs have had adverse effects on the populace.

He commended the initiative of states having Independent Power Supply, noting its potential benefits for the states. However, he expressed dismay at the persistent power outages and the challenges posed by the new electricity tariffs, which have significantly impacted various sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Adams also addressed the fuel subsidy removal, stating that it has exacerbated hardship for Nigerians and contributed to further inflation in the country.

In addition to addressing economic issues, Adams emphasized the importance of state police in ensuring the security of lives and property. He underscored that security is a fundamental responsibility of the government and called for measures to enhance security across the nation.
