Youthful Tottenham Edge Past Ferencvaros in Budapest

Tottenham secured their second win in as many Europa League games with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ferencvaros in Hungary. Ange Postecoglou’s bold decision to field a youthful side paid off, as goals from Pape Sarr and Brennan Johnson, along with impressive performances from four teenage starters, led Spurs to victory.

Mikey Moore, 17, made a notable impact on his first senior start, playing the full 90 minutes and playing a key role in Tottenham’s opening goal. “It’s brilliant for a 17-year-old to play 90-plus minutes in a European away tie,” said Postecoglou. “He handled it superbly.”

Postecoglou also praised the performances of Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, and Will Lankshear, all of whom contributed to a composed team display. “These guys are there because they’ve earned their spot,” Postecoglou added.

Tottenham’s opener came after Ferencvaros had a goal disallowed for offside, with Moore’s run down the right creating the chance for Sarr to score from close range. Despite Ferencvaros’ late pressure, Johnson sealed the win with a low shot off the post, his fifth goal in five games.

Barnabas Varga pulled one back for the hosts in the 90th minute, but it was too late to prevent Tottenham from leaving Budapest with all three points.

Tottenham now sit atop their Europa League group with six points from two games and will face Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in their next fixture.
