Yemi Alade Reveals Music Transition from Passion to Career

Nigerian music sensation Yemi Alade recently disclosed in an episode of the Tea With Tay podcast that, contrary to popular belief, music was initially a passion and not a career choice for her.

In the podcast, Alade candidly expressed her view on music, stating, “It [music] was always a passion, and I was hoping to see where it would take me. Do I feel like I needed to drop everything I was doing in life and focus solely on music? No.”

The ‘Johnny’ crooner went on to elaborate, emphasizing that while she loved the idea of music, she didn’t envision it as a full-fledged career. “It was a big hobby I was very invested in, but not a career. If you had asked me 11/12 years ago if I wanted to be a musician, I would not have picked that as a career choice. I still wouldn’t do it,” she asserted.

Alade highlighted her commitment to academics, stating her intention to pursue a job if music didn’t pan out. This perspective, however, underwent a transformation after her victory in the Peak Talent Show in 2009. Subsequently signing with Effyzzie Music Group, she soared to prominence, marking a pivotal moment with the 2014 hit single, ‘Johnny.’

Yemi Alade’s journey from viewing music as a hobby to embracing it as a successful career showcases the unpredictable trajectory of passion. This revelation offers fans a deeper understanding of the artist’s evolution and the unexpected turns that can shape a person’s professional path.
