Wout van Aert Clinches Second Victory at Vuelta a España Stage Seven

Belgian cyclist Wout van Aert secured his second stage win at this year’s Vuelta a España with a remarkable sprint finish on stage seven. The stage, which covered 159km, ended in a thrilling dash to the line, where Van Aert, riding for Visma-Lease a Bike, edged out Mathias Vacek and Pau Miquel Delgado.

Van Aert’s victory was supported by an impressive team effort, particularly from his teammate Sepp Kuss, who helped close the gap on the then-leader Marc Soler, creating the perfect platform for Van Aert’s winning bid. Entering the final 200 meters, Pavel Sivakov led the race but was soon overtaken by Aleksandr Vlasov. However, it was Van Aert who surged forward to claim victory.

The win strengthens Van Aert’s position in the green jersey standings, extending his lead over Australian Kaden Groves to 41 points.

Australia’s Ben O’Connor, who took the red jersey with a solo victory in stage six, retains his overall lead in the general classification, holding a 4-minute 45-second advantage over Primoz Roglic of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe. Joao Almeida of UAE Team Emirates remains in third place, 4 minutes 59 seconds behind O’Connor.

The Vuelta a España continues on Saturday with an eagerly anticipated 159km stage between Ubede and Carzorla.
