Wizkid Accuses Nigeria’s Wealthy of Using Poverty as a Tool, Criticizes Davido

Afrobeats star Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has claimed that Nigeria’s elite have “weaponized poverty” to make the less fortunate “worship” them. He made the assertion while reigniting a social media feud with fellow musician Davido on Wednesday.

Wizkid, who began targeting Davido the previous night, resumed his tirade, taking aim at the ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ singer’s privileged background. He argued that, despite Davido’s wealth, he remains richer and more successful.

Wizkid labeled Davido as a “spoilt rich kid” and described him as “cheap,” accusing him of charging less for performances compared to their industry peers. He took to his X handle, writing, “First off, you’re not as fly as me, can’t sing or make music like me… You’re cheap, you pull up for less than we do! Now f*ck off you spoilt Rich child! F*ck u and your dad’s money we got ours!”

In another tweet, Wizkid criticized Davido’s self-proclaimed status as the “001” of the Nigerian music scene, claiming that Davido surrounds himself with impoverished people to gain their adoration. “Naija is a place the rich weaponize poverty… Call you 001 you delusional… The only time you’re 001 is when you’re in your house,” Wizkid wrote, dismissing Davido’s influence as limited to social media.
