Wike Vows to Stay in PDP Amid Party Turmoil, Dismisses Exit Speculations

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has firmly stated his commitment to remaining in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite ongoing internal conflicts within the party. Wike made this declaration during a media parley on Wednesday, marking his first anniversary as FCT Minister.

Addressing speculations that he might leave the PDP due to the internal strife, Wike asserted his resolve to confront the challenges head-on rather than abandoning the party. “I don’t run away from any fight. I will stay and fight it out. Who am I going to run from? The vampires? I cannot do that!” Wike stated with conviction.

Wike’s comments come amid growing speculation that he might exit the PDP due to conflicts, particularly those targeting him. However, he has consistently affirmed his loyalty to the party and his principles, even if it means standing alone.

When questioned about the possibility of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), Wike dismissed the idea, stating, “Anyone who knows me knows if I wanted to join the APC, I would do it openly. I’ve never hidden my stance, and I won’t start now. Integrity is very important.”

Wike emphasized that his commitment to the PDP was instrumental in the party’s victory in Rivers State, crediting his steadfastness for the success. “People must know you for something,” he concluded, dismissing his critics as being afraid of his influence.

His comments come less than 24 hours after Chief Edwin Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information, publicly called on PDP National Chairman, Iliya Damagun, to expel Wike from the party. In an open letter, Clark accused Wike of using his influence with President Bola Tinubu to intimidate Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the PDP.
