West Ham United are nearing the completion of a £40 million deal to sign Wolves captain Max Kilman. The Hammers had previously seen a £25 million bid for the defender rejected last month but have now reportedly reached an agreement with Wolves.
The move will reunite Kilman with former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui, who recently took over from David Moyes at the London Stadium. West Ham’s technical director, Tim Steidten, indicated earlier this week that the club expected a “busy” summer transfer window and confirmed that the club had no profit and sustainability issues following the £105 million sale of Declan Rice last summer.
Kilman, 27, joined Wolves in 2018 from Maidenhead United and made his debut for the club in May 2019 against Fulham. As part of the transfer agreement, Maidenhead United will receive 10% of the transfer fee, amounting to approximately £4 million, due to a sell-on clause they included when Kilman moved to Wolves. The clause was initially set at 20% but was renegotiated to facilitate the deal.
