Watford Sign Angelo Ogbonna on One-Year Deal as the Club Bolsters Defense

Watford have secured the services of former West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna on an initial one-year contract. The 36-year-old, a free agent after being released by the Hammers, joins the Hornets as their eighth summer signing.

Ogbonna, who was with West Ham since 2015 following a £10m move from Juventus, brings a wealth of experience to the Watford squad. He made 17 appearances for West Ham last season and was part of their squad that won the Europa Conference League in 2023, making a brief appearance in the final.

Watford, who have won all three of their Championship games this season as well as their EFL Cup first-round tie, see Ogbonna’s experience as a valuable addition under head coach Tom Cleverley.

“I have spoken with the manager a couple of times, so I know his style of play,” Ogbonna said. “I am here to try my best and to help the team.”

Ogbonna’s addition follows the signing of Moussa Sissoko, underscoring Watford’s focus on adding experienced players to their squad.
