The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the demise of a notorious cult leader, Gift Okpara, popularly known as “2 Baba,” who was declared the prime suspect in the brutal murder of Divisional Police Officer Bako Angbashim in September last year. Angbashim fell victim to a barbaric attack orchestrated by the cult gang, resulting in his gruesome murder and the subsequent dismemberment of his body, which was filmed as a macabre display of violence.
Following Angbashim’s tragic death, the police intensified efforts to apprehend Okpara, with relentless pursuit operations spanning land and air bombardments targeting the hideouts of the Iceland cult leader and his accomplices. The recent joint security raid in the Idu-Ekpeye community, Ahoada East Local Government Area, culminated in Okpara’s death, as confirmed by intelligence reports.
Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the state police command, disclosed that Okpara met his demise during the raid, which also led to the recovery of significant weaponry and paraphernalia from his hideout. Despite a fierce gun battle, Okpara and his gang managed to escape initially, but subsequent intelligence confirmed his death after he lost consciousness and resuscitation efforts proved futile.
Items recovered from the camp included an array of firearms, explosives, charms, and a human skull, underscoring the nefarious activities perpetrated by the cult leader and his associates. The police assured ongoing efforts to retrieve Okpara’s body and vowed to continue investigations into the activities of the Iceland cult in the region.
