Wales Look to Bounce Back Against Montenegro After Iceland Draw in Nations League

Wales will aim to extend their unbeaten run under new manager Craig Bellamy when they face Montenegro in their next Uefa Nations League clash at Cardiff City Stadium on Monday, 14 October. Kick-off is at 19:45 BST, and the match will be covered live on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru & BBC Sounds, with live text commentary available on the BBC Sport website & app.

Wales striker Kieffer Moore expressed optimism despite their recent 2-2 draw against Iceland in Reykjavik. Wales had dominated the first half with goals from Brennan Johnson and Harry Wilson, showcasing the attacking identity Bellamy is working to instill. However, the team faltered in the second half, allowing Iceland to come back and nearly snatching victory after hitting the post late on.

Moore acknowledged the drop in performance, saying, “The first half showed what we’re about and what we’re working on. Everything came off, and that was our identity – that’s how we should play.” He added that Iceland’s comeback serves as a learning experience, and the team must continue to improve, especially in how they respond to opposition tactics.

Although Wales missed the opportunity to top Group B4, they remain unbeaten with one win and two draws under Bellamy. They will now look to secure a win against Montenegro, a side they beat 2-1 in September.

Wales will be without key players Brennan Johnson and Jordan James due to suspension. Johnson, who has been in excellent form with seven goals in his last seven games, was substituted at half-time against Iceland due to a knock and will be replaced by Wes Burns of Ipswich Town.

Moore remains confident that the squad can cope with the absences, saying, “It’s a squad game, and we’ve got some really good players to come in. I’m sure they’ll take their chances.” He emphasized the team’s commitment to their high-press, attacking style, which has been exciting for fans but also poses challenges.
