Usher Embraces Afrobeats Wave with Collaborations Featuring Burna Boy and Pheelz

 

American R&B sensation Usher has dived headfirst into the pulsating world of Afrobeats, teaming up with Nigerian stars Burna Boy and Pheelz for his latest album. In an exclusive interview with Apple Music, Usher unveiled the influence behind these collaborations, shedding light on his desire to be part of the Afrobeats phenomenon.

The Grammy-winning artist highlighted the role of Pheelz, the Nigerian music producer, in shaping the collaboration with Burna Boy. Usher expressed his commitment to bridging cultures, stating, “I am all about collaboration and bringing African, you know, Nigerian culture to my own world.”

Detailing his immersive experience in Africa during the album’s creation, Usher shared, “I went to Africa to make this album. I picked up things when I was in Ghana. I picked up things when I was in Nigeria.” This firsthand exposure allowed Usher to infuse authentic elements of African music into his work.

The lead track, ‘Ruin,’ featuring Pheelz, and the album’s title track, ‘Homecoming,’ featuring Burna Boy, underscore Usher’s dedication to embracing the Afrobeats genre. Usher acknowledged Burna Boy’s unique artistry, stating, “I really do enjoy him as an artist. I just felt that this song would only be lifted better if he was part of it.”
