The United States women’s basketball team is on track to secure an eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal after a dominant performance in the semi-finals of Paris 2024. The US extended their Olympic winning streak to 60 games with an 85-64 victory over Australia.
The Americans established a commanding lead early, with a 45-27 advantage at halftime and a 66-40 lead by the end of the third quarter. They further extended their lead to 30 points in the final quarter. Breanna Stewart led the US with 16 points, while Jackie Young contributed 14.
The US women’s team’s last Olympic defeat came in the semi-finals of Barcelona 1992, where they were beaten by the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), a team formed after the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
In the other semi-final, France edged out Belgium 81-75 in overtime to secure their place in the final. The final will be held on Sunday at 14:30 BST, and the US will also compete against France in the men’s final on Saturday at 20:30 BST.
