US Fends Off Europe’s Rally to Retain Lead in Solheim Cup

The United States weathered a determined European comeback in the Solheim Cup’s Saturday morning foursomes, drawing the session 2-2 to maintain an 8-4 lead. Europe, trailing after a rough first day, appeared set for a comeback, leading in three of the four matches at one point, but key missed opportunities kept them from capitalizing fully.

Emily Pedersen and Carlota Ciganda took an early lead over the unbeaten US duo of Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz but missed crucial putts that allowed the Americans to recover. Korda and Corpuz sealed a 1UP victory after a dramatic eagle on the 14th hole swung momentum in their favor.

Europe gained points with Charley Hull and Esther Henseleit edging Ally Ewing and Jennifer Kupcho 1UP, while Anna Nordqvist and Celine Boutier cruised to a 4&3 win against Lilia Vu and Sarah Schmelzel. However, Lexi Thompson and Lauren Coughlin’s dominant 4&3 victory over Georgia Hall and Maja Stark further solidified the US lead.

Europe captain Suzann Pettersen remained optimistic about the afternoon session, hoping for a strong response.
