In a closed-door House interview on Tuesday, a former business associate of the Biden family, Tony Bobulinski, resurfaced critical yet unproven allegations against President Joe Biden, renewing claims that have circulated since 2020.
Bobulinski, who has previously shared his story with various parties, including the Trump campaign, reiterated his most significant assertions during the interview. He contended that Joe Biden played a substantial role in his son’s overseas business dealings, although these claims lack corroboration and have been contradicted by other key witnesses.
According to a copy of his opening statement provided to CNN, Bobulinski accused Joe Biden of being deeply involved in his family’s business ventures, asserting that the Biden family business was, in essence, Joe Biden himself. He specifically highlighted Joe Biden’s alleged participation in a lucrative proposed deal with a Chinese energy conglomerate, claiming that such deals materialized because of Joe Biden’s high office.
Despite Bobulinski’s assertions, CNN has not independently verified the evidence underlying his claims. Moreover, previous reports indicate that the China deal in question never came to fruition, and corporate records show no involvement by Joe Biden.
During the interview, House Oversight Chairman James Comer praised Bobulinski’s testimony and criticized Democrats on the committee for their handling of the proceedings. However, the top Democrat on the committee, Rep. Jamie Raskin, questioned Bobulinski’s credibility, characterizing his interactions with Joe Biden as casual and devoid of substantive business discussions.
Furthermore, another business associate, Rob Walker, who was involved with Bobulinski and Hunter Biden, refuted Bobulinski’s claims in a separate interview with committee investigators. Walker described Bobulinski’s allegations as nonsensical and speculated that his motivations were political.
Bobulinski’s claims also contrast with statements from other Biden family associates, who have maintained that Joe Biden was never involved in his family’s foreign business dealings.
One of the central pieces of evidence presented by Bobulinski is an email exchange from May 2017, in which discussions about equity arrangements for a Chinese energy deal took place. While House Republicans have seized on this email to support their assertions about Joe Biden’s involvement, Hunter Biden’s lawyers have countered that the proposed equity breakdown was never implemented and was initiated by Bobulinski.
Despite Bobulinski’s efforts to bring attention to his claims, federal prosecutors have not cited his materials in the tax indictment against Hunter Biden. The Justice Department has accused Hunter Biden of tax evasion and other financial crimes but has not substantiated claims about the Biden family’s alleged influence-peddling schemes.
