Uche Secondus Warns Nigeria Risks Becoming a Failed State Amid Rising Petrol Prices

Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has raised concerns that Nigeria is inching closer to becoming a failed state as petrol prices continue to surge. Speaking in Abuja, Secondus criticized the leadership of the Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that it has failed to provide effective governance in the past two years.

“All the indices are pointing to a failed state and democracy. We need to pray for our country because the masses are in trouble,” Secondus said, highlighting the struggles faced by citizens. He pointed out that petrol prices have soared to N1,100 per liter, with some regions reporting rates as high as N1,200, exacerbating economic hardships.

Secondus also addressed the ongoing internal conflict within the PDP, particularly in Rivers State. He noted that the discord is unnecessary and could have been avoided, insisting that Governor Siminalaye Fubara is the legitimate leader of the PDP in the state. “There are no two captains in a ship. Governor Fubara is our governor and the leader of our state,” he emphasized, urging all party members to respect Fubara’s leadership.

In a veiled message to dissenting members led by Chief Nyesom Wike, Secondus called for a de-escalation of tensions, citing the negative impact on business and investor confidence in Rivers State. “I feel very pained about the state because business and investors are running away. They should tone it down,” he advised.

Additionally, Secondus emphasized the need for judicial reforms to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy, stressing the judiciary’s crucial role in governance. “We all are looking for improvement and reform in the judiciary,” he added.
