Tributes Pour in for Late Access Corporation CEO, Herbert Wigwe

Corporate Nigeria and political figures gathered to honor the life and achievements of Herbert Wigwe, the late Chief Executive Officer of Access Corporation Plc, during an emotional ‘Night of Tributes’. The event saw dignitaries from various sectors, including Aliko Dangote, Adesina Akinwunmi, Wale Edun, and several others, extolling Wigwe’s virtues and contributions.

Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, described Wigwe as a loyal friend and a source of support, pledging to immortalize him by naming the road leading to the Dangote Refinery after him. Adesina Akinwunmi, President of the African Development Bank, praised Wigwe’s relentless pursuit of excellence, highlighting his transformative impact on Access Bank and the banking industry as a whole.

Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of Coronation Capital, hailed Wigwe as a brilliant banker who revolutionized the Nigerian banking sector. Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance, reminisced about Wigwe’s wealth of knowledge and creative thinking, portraying him as a pillar of support.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State commended Wigwe’s leadership during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing his significant contributions to the state’s infrastructure development. Similarly, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State lauded Wigwe’s unwavering belief in Nigeria and his dedication to supporting the country’s progress.

Olayemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, hailed Wigwe as an exceptional individual who played a pivotal role in elevating Access Bank to prominence within the financial sector.

Segun Agbaje, the Group Chief Executive Officer of GT Holdings, shared heartfelt memories of his close relationship with Wigwe, describing him as a mentor, friend, and competitor.
