Tragic Electrocution Incident Claims Life of Student at Government Science Secondary School

Last Wednesday, tragedy struck at the Government Science Secondary School in the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory when 16-year-old Meshack Agaba lost his life due to electrocution within the school premises. According to reports obtained by reporters, the incident occurred as Agaba was on his way to fetch water from a tap and unknowingly stepped on an electric cable that had tripped off an electric pole inside the school compound.

An anonymous parent, who was aware of the incident, lamented the negligence of the school management, stating that the electric pole and cable had been lying in the area before the tragic event, with no action taken to address the potential hazard. Despite the fatal accident, the parent expressed dismay that the school management had attempted to change the narrative and downplay the incident, even going as far as falsely claiming that Agaba had attempted to jump the fence when the cable fell on him.

The concerned parent further revealed disturbing details, alleging that school security personnel hindered efforts to rush Agaba to the hospital by demanding an exit card, resulting in a fatal delay. Additionally, the fallen pole has not been fixed, and academic activities continue as usual, with no acknowledgement or accountability from the school management.

When contacted by reporters, the school’s vice principal in charge of administration, Mrs Dogo Suzie, denied the allegations of attempting to change the narrative, insisting that the true account of the incident could only be obtained by visiting the school premises. However, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, stating that the police had commenced an investigation into the matter.
